White Sox pitcher Michael Kopech has elected to sit out the 2020 season.

The right-hander last pitched for the White Sox in early September of 2018 before undergoing Tommy John surgery. Kopech’s recovery went smoothly and he returned to the mound during Spring Training back in March before the season was suspended due to COVID-19 concerns.

The White Sox will now rely on fellow youngsters Dylan Cease and Reynaldo Lopez as well as veteran newcomers Dallas Keuchel and Gio Gonzalez to fill the void in the starting rotation that Kopech’s absence creates.
