White Sox manager Rick Renteria will not be managing tonight’s series opener in Cleveland.
The White Sox skipper was feeling under the weather this morning as he experienced a slight cough and nasal congestion. The team stated that Renteria underwent testing at a hospital in Cleveland and that he will not join the team at the ballpark tonight as a cautionary measure. Bench coach Joe McEwing will fulfill managerial duties for the South Siders tonight.
This is the right move by the club seeing as the Miami Marlins experienced an outbreak of 14 positive COVID-19 tests between players, staff, and coaches after their opening weekend series in Philadelphia.
UPDATE: Rick Renteria’s COVID-19 test came back negative, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Tonight’s White Sox vs. Indians game was postponed due to inclement weather and will be made up as the first game of a doubleheader tomorrow. The White Sox expect Rick Renteria to resume managerial duties in Cleveland.
