The Chicago White Sox made four roster moves this afternoon.
RHP Reynaldo Lopez started yesterday’s game against the Twins but exited after just 2/3 of an inning due to right shoulder soreness. Because of that ailment, the team placed him on the ten-day injured list.
Ian Hamilton will replace Lopez on the roster for now. The righty’s last MLB stint came with the White Sox during the 2018 season when he posted a 1-2 record and 4.50 ERA over eight innings in ten games.
The team also designated infielder Cheslor Cuthbert for assignment and subsequently purchased infielder Ryan Goins’ contract from the Schaumberg taxi squad. Goins slashed .250/.333/.347 and posted two home runs and ten RBIs over 144 at-bats in 52 games for the White Sox in 2019.
The biggest question surrounding these roster moves will certainly be how the White Sox handle the third spot in the starting rotation due to Lopez’s absence. Perhaps they will utilize an opener or piggy-back two long-relief pitchers to fill the void.
