Jose Abreu Earns AL Player of the Week Honors

White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu slugged his way to his 5th Player of the Week honor of his career.

After obliterating the ball last week and stuffing the Cubs’ pitching staff in their lockers, White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu took home AL Player of the Week honors.

Abreu smashed seven home runs over the course of last week, including home runs in four straight at-bats between Saturday’s and Sunday’s contests. Abreu posted an insane 1.896 OPS throughout the week as he moved into first place in the AL home run race and only trails the MLB home run leader by one.

The White Sox lineup ran into the buzzsaw that is Yu Darvish on Sunday, but the lone run came off of Abreu’s scorching hot bat. One would think Abreu has a shot at winning the award again this week with the Pirates and Royals on the schedule.
