Chicago Bears’ running back David Montgomery suffered what appeared to be a significant leg injury. On Wednesday, Montgomery was participating in non-contact drills when he abruptly lost balance and got up slowly. The second-year running back was favoring his left leg. He was eventually carted off the field and taken to the locker room for further evaluation.
The team delivered a statement later on in the day, stating that the severity of the injury is not yet known.
Montgomery is expected to be a large part of the offense this season. If his injury is severe enough, the Bears might be inclined to look into free agency for a replacement running back. Tarik Cohen and Cordarrelle Patterson are the only players on the roster with significant experience at the position.
