Bulls Get Permission to Interview Heat Assistant Dan Craig

No, it’s not James Bond, just one of the most respected Assistant Coaches in the NBA.

The Chicago Bulls have been granted permission by the Miami Heat to interview assistant coach Dan Craig. Craig is currently in the Orlando bubble as the Heat hold a 2-0 series lead over the Bucks in their Eastern Conference Semifinals best-of-seven series.

Craig has been with the Heat organization for 17 years, including the last four seasons as Erik Spoelstra’s right-hand man on the bench as Assistant Coach. Craig even got his first chance as a head coach in March of 2018, filling in for Spoelstra’s one-game absence.

Before joining the Heat, Craig served a brief stint as a graduate assistant at Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania.

Craig joined the Heat as a video intern and was known around the organization as being the hardest worker in the room, putting in long hours watching film and leaving the building after everyone else had gone.

Craig has also garnered a reputation for being able to connect with players, no matter if they are starters or the last guy coming off the bench. This talent for player relationships resulted in Craig being promoted to Director of Player Development before the 2014-15 season.

Besides being a part of an organization that has won three NBA championships, Craig has a further winning pedigree. He led the Sioux Falls Skyforce to the G-League championship in 2016 before going back to the Heat in an Assistant Coach capacity.

Craig is a graduate of Chelmsford High School in Massachusetts and was a player for the Plymouth State basketball team, where he was co-captain his junior and senior years.

Chicago born and raised. Cubs and Bulls die hard. Love the Hawks and Bears too. You can usually find me drinking beers at AJ Hudson's watching West Ham soccer in the Premier League or hiking on a mountain somewhere.
