The White Sox put together an explosive month of August that saw them surge to the top of the AL Central standings come the final day. Two big pieces of the South Siders’ puzzle in August were Jose Abreu and Luis Robert.
Today, both players were recognized with monthly honors for the American League.
Abreu took home AL Player of the Month Honors.
The veteran first baseman slashed an impressive .330/.374/.687 with 11 home runs and 29 RBIs over 28 games. His month was highlighted by a six-home run series against the Cubs between August 21st through the 23rd.
As for Luis Robert, the first-year phenom took home AL Rookie of the Month honors for July/August.
Beyond the impressive stats listed in the tweet above, Robert is tied for fourth in AL fWAR at 1.6. White Sox fans have been clamoring for a highly-touted prospect to make an immediate impact, and Luis Robert has done just that.
Both Abreu and Robert helped put the White Sox name in headlines throughout August. Along with contributions from elsewhere throughout the lineup, they will need to continue that high level of play down the home stretch of the schedule if the White Sox want to remain on top of the AL Central standings.
