According to Ian Rapoport, Bears’ star receiver Allen Robinson has resumed contract discussions with the organization.
Despite Robinson telling the media that he believes the situation will not affect the locker room on game day, some of his respective teammates took to Twitter to express their interest in the Bears giving Allen Robinson a contract extension.
Robinson is viewed as a leader in the Bears’ locker room, and many want him to get the money they believe he deserves. Several players and fans started using the hashtag #ExtendAR on Twitter. Could this have potentially pressured the Bears enough to try to get the deal done and pay him closer to what he wants? Who knows, but either way, it exemplifies the widespread support for Robinson among teammates and the fanbase.
The Bears are going into week two and preparing for a matchup against the Giants. Despite Robinson saying these issues won’t affect the season, it will ease a lot of the fans’ minds — and those of his teammates — if he and the team are able to negotiate a new long-term contract. It is still up in the air whether or not a deal will get done, but today’s news is a step in the right direction.
