Beer Review: Hailstorm – Dominatrix

Even at 11% ABV, Hailstorms’s Dominatrix triple IPA carries a sweet, malty taste to tone down the bitterness.

Hailstorm Dominatrix Triple IPA

This is my first Hailstorm in quite some time. I’ve had several of their beers and they are all good. I’ve seen Dominatrix before but never had a chance to try it out. It’s one of their rotating beers and it’s back on the shelves at Binny’s now in a four-pack for $12.99. Not too shabby considering it’s got an 11% ABV.

Dominatrix pours a rich amber color with a solid inch of foam that creates a nice amount of sticky lacing. This is a triple IPA that is smooth as can be. It has a really nice balance of flavor that starts off with sweet malt, a little citrus pine, and then goes to a slightly dry hops finish. I love the sweetness in the beer. You can sense the smell and taste the booziness in this beer, but the sweet malts keep it toned down. It’s almost all the way on the sweet side so if the bitterness keeps you away from some triple or imperial IPA styles, this one may be one that you’d enjoy trying out. Absolutely fantastic beer that’s brewed in Tinley Park so a lot of my followers should be able to find this one.

Happy Drinking!
