With the 17th overall pick in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft, the Chicago Blackhawks have selected forward Lukas Reichel.
Reichel is an 18-year-old winger from Nuremberg, Germany. He stands at 6 feet tall, weighs 172 lbs, and carries a left-handed shot.
During his 2019-20 season with Eisbaren Berlin, Reichel posted 12 goals and 12 assists over 42 games. Here is a complete look at his statistics to date:
Here’s what Elite Prospects had to say about Lukas Reichel in their 2020 NHL Draft scouting report:
“He’s an unrelenting forechecker & backchecker, never gives up on a play, and wins battles through second efforts. Reichel is a pretty capable puck-handler too, even at top-speed carrying the puck through a defender’s triangle, showing a predilection for outside-in maneuvers, and deploying weight shifts to avoid contact.”– Elite Prospects
It’s no surprise that the Blackhawks elected to go with a high-motor forward with their first-round selection in the 2020 NHL Draft. Selecting Reichel could add some much-needed playmaking and puck retrieval ability to the Blackhawks middle-six in the coming years.
