Here we go with another stout review. This is still a relatively new style for me, but as I’ve been sampling quite a few I’ve quickly realized my favorite. Regular stouts are alright but they just don’t quite do it for me. They come off a little dry and lacking in flavor. Now these imperial stouts, that’s where it’s at. Packed with flavor and a punch, Bell’s Expedition hits the nail on the head.
Expedition has that typical jet black color and it pours a hefty inch and a half of milk chocolate-colored head. The aroma and taste go hand in hand with dark chocolate, roasted malts, espresso, and sweet dark fruits. This is a wonderfully rich, flavorful beer. Listed at 10.5% ABV, it goes down rather smoothly for a Russian imperial stout. This is everything I am looking for in the style and I’m excited to try out more as the stupid season that is winter begins. I’ll need it to help warm up the old bones.
