Fantasy Football Week 7 Starts and Sits

James Robinson has yet to score fewer than ten fantasy points, but should you start him?

Did you play Big Ben Roethlisberger last week? Ouch, that one had to hurt. I will admit that I was wrong about the Cleveland Browns, however. They looked utterly forgettable last week and got completely pounded by the Steelers. Needless to say, Baker Mayfield does not warrant a start this week. Let’s dive into the rest of the fantasy football starts and sits for Week 7.

Quarterback Starts

Kyler Murray vs. SEA – The Monday Night Football trampling of the Dallas Cowboys was as ugly as ugly gets if you’re a Dallas fan. If you’re a Cardinals fan or a Kyler Murray owner, then you loved every minute of it and who wouldn’t? Murray’s 188 passing yards and two touchdowns in addition to 74 rushing yards and one sneaky rushing touchdown led the Cardinals to an impressive victory. This week is no different. The Seahawks have a better defense than Dallas, surely, but Murray has already proven himself. Let him go toe-to-toe with Russell Wilson and ball out just like last week.

Josh Allen at NYJ – Do not be discouraged by Josh Allen’s Week 6 performance against the Chiefs. Kansas City was on the rebound from their first loss of the season and Allen really played well despite the weather. Buffalo struggled to gel as an entire offense but that will be rectified this week against the lowly Jets.

Additional Starts:

  • Carson Wentz vs. NYG
  • Ryan Tannehill vs. PIT
  • Justin Herbert vs. JAX
  • Matthew Stafford at ATL

Quarterback Sits

Tom Brady at LV – When it really boils down, I haven’t liked Tom Brady all year. In Week 4, he threw for 369 yards and five touchdowns: the outlier of the season for him. I cannot trust him this week against the Raiders. The Buccaneers still don’t have an “identity” on offense and their eclectic variety of weapons still leads to more issues than it fixes.

Drew Brees vs. CAR – This actually pains me to write considering how much I like Drew Brees. It’s really sad to see him try to keep up with Tom Brady, in playing age, and watch him fall apart. He’s losing his arm strength and the Saints are scared to throw the deep ball. In Week 5, he threw for over 320 yards for the first time this year and 74 of those yards came from dumping the ball to Alvin Kamara. In Week 3, he threw for 288 yards and 139 of them came from the Kamara short-play. This has been their style all year; why would that change now? Don’t get me wrong, solid numbers are solid numbers. If you have one of the quarterbacks who can run more and has a more explosive offense right now, then I’d plug them in. Sit Brees unless you have no one else.

Additional Sits:

  • Cam Newton vs. SF
  • Jared Goff vs. CHI
  • Andy Dalton at WSH
  • Derek Carr vs TB

Wide Receiver/Running Back Starts

Remember last week when I inquired if you needed me to tell you to start Ezekiel Elliott every week?

Well after his performance last week, I’m questioning him now too.

Ezekiel Elliott at WSH – I’m terrified of this one because he looked so incredibly bad against the Cardinals. This Cowboys team isn’t coached by Jason Garrett anymore and Mike McCarthy won’t play around. I can see him using more of a timeshare of running backs this week against a Washington team that they should beat up. However, if you have other reliable backs on your bench, then consider swapping Ezekiel Elliott out for a maintenance week. I’m still going to start Zeke this week personally because, in that particular league, my other players are all on byes or not start-worthy. This is where championships are made!

Boston Scott vs. NYG – Miles Sanders is officially out for this game against the Giants, which means Boston Scott will have a heavy workload on Thursday Night Football. He should have been everyone’s number one target on the waiver wire this week. If you were lucky enough to snag him off the waiver wire, then play him of course!

D.K. Metcalf/Tyler Lockett at ARI – This game is going to be so much fun to watch. The duo of Metcalf/Lockett is one of, if not the best in the entire league. They should see starts every week and this one is no different.

Darius Slayton at PHI – He does not have any injury designation going into the Thursday Night divisional matchup against the Eagles and he is the number one target in the Giants passing game. Start him every time he’s healthy unless the matchup is against an extremely unfavorable defense.

Additional Starts:

  • Mike Davis at NO
  • Antonio Gibson vs. DAL
  • Kenyan Drake vs. SEA
  • Chase Edmonds vs. SEA
  • Jamison Crowder vs. BUF
  • Keenan Allen vs. JAX
  • Calvin Ridley vs. DET

Wide Receiver/Running Back Sits

David Montgomery at LAR – The Bears still cannot run the ball to save their life. Every Bears running back is benched unless I have no other choice.

James Robinson at LAC – What is Jacksonville doing with this season? I don’t know and frankly, I doubt anyone knows. Aside from a touchdown catch last week against the Lions, James Robinson has been a middle-of-the-pack type of back instead of a bonafide leader. He has yet to score fewer than ten fantasy points in most PPR leagues, but he must find the endzone to make this a worthy pick. He’s the definition of boom-or-bust for me this week.

Marvin Jones Jr. at ATL – Marvin Jones has been a big fantasy disappointment this year, only notching one touchdown in five games. The targets are not there and the production isn’t either. He isn’t rostered except for in deep leagues.

Additional Sits:

  • Darrell Henderson Jr. vs. CHI
  • LaMical Perine vs. BUF
  • Le’Veon Bell at DEN
  • A.J. Green vs. CLE
  • JuJu Smith-Schuster at TEN
  • Jarvis Landry at CIN
