OFFICIAL: Jordan/Hamlin Debut 23XI Racing, No. 23
Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin announced that their NASCAR team will be called 23XI. As expected, they will run Jordan’s iconic #23 as their car.
The NASCAR news cycle was fairly active in recent days after Stewart-Haas Racing tabbed Xfinity Series prospect Chase Briscoe to take over the #14 car next season with Clint Bowyer retiring.
However, the newly formed race team with co-owners Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan announced the name of their team as well. The team is officially 23XI Racing, and the one-car team will have the #23 car.
It comes as no surprise that Jordan and Hamlin would select to run the #23 car given how iconic Jordan made the number as a member of the Chicago Bulls. When the announcement was made about the team forming and subsequently tabbing Darrell “Bubba” Wallace as their driver, there wasn’t an indication of what the team would be called or what car they would be racing. Those questions are now answered.
I wrote about the impact 23XI Racing will have on NASCAR after the original announcement was made, but now that the other specifics have surfaced, Jordan fans can now rep the #23 NASCAR swag that will surely be introduced in the coming months.
The next question is what will the car look like? It’s completely uncertain at this point, especially with the amount of sponsors Wallace brings as a driver. But how cool would it be to see something like this for the #23 car by repping the Jordan brand itself?
Now that 23XI Racing is official, the specifics about the car will be the last things to announce. It will be pretty awesome seeing more Jordan materials in the sport now.
