Patrick Williams Is On The Chicago Bulls’ Radar
The Chicago Bulls reportedly have significant interest in Florida State forward Patrick Williams.
Where there is smoke there is fire — or just a smokescreen. It’s honestly hard to tell at this point with tomorrow’s NBA Draft being so wide open.
There is no clear consensus number one pick in this draft and many franchises have been rumored to show interest in trading up or down. Now, per K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago, there is a new name being linked to the Chicago Bulls: Florida State forward Patrick Williams.
At one point, many NBA Mock Drafts had Williams going from anywhere between picks 8-12. He has been rumored as a lottery pick but his stock has apparently been on the rise in recent days. There have been rumors the Detroit Pistons are interested in him at pick seven and now the Bulls are seemingly showing major interest in him at pick four.
The 6-foot-8 forward out of Florida State possesses all the physical tools to be a lockdown defender at the NBA level. His offensive game needs polishing, though he has shown signs of a decent mid-range game. His athletic ability makes him explosive under the rim and his size can cause problems for small-ball fours.
Taking him with the fourth pick may confuse a large portion of the Bulls fan base, but if Artūras Karnišovas and Marc Eversley think he is the guy, there’s nothing to do but accept it. The Bulls struggled defensively last year and could use help in that department at the wing position.
As alluded to earlier, Williams is a raw offensive talent. He will need to put in a ton of work at that end of the floor to get where he needs to be at the NBA level.
There is something to be said about him seemingly ascending from a lower-level potential lottery pick to now being rumored within the top eight. Maybe under the right situation, the talent is there for Williams to be an effective NBA player at both ends of the floor.
