Chicago Bears’ head coach Matt Nagy confirmed today that Mitchell Trubisky will be the starting quarterback in the team’s Week 13 matchup against the Detroit Lions.

This may come as a surprise to some because the Week 12 matchup against the Packers marked Trubisky’s first start since Week 3. Trubisky struggled mightily, throwing two interceptions (into double and triple coverage, respectively), in a 41-25 loss. This became the Bears’ fifth loss in a row.

Quarterback Nick Foles has been dealing with a hip injury since the Bears’ Week 11 loss to the Vikings. Foles was sidelined last week due to that hip ailment but returned to practice today for limited participation. Since Foles didn’t get onto the practice field till mid-week, Nagy may want to ease Foles back from the injury while hoping Trubisky can provide a spark for this freefalling team.

The Bears are currently not expected to make the playoffs, but they still have a chance mathematically. Chicago’s quarterback room has been a disappointment for the majority of the season, but Nagy will try to look for answers under center before his team falls out of the playoff picture completely.
