After the departure of Will Venable to become the Boston Red Sox bench coach earlier this offseason, the Chicago Cubs have filled the void by hiring longtime MLB utility man Willie Harris as their new third-base coach.

Harris spent 12 years in the major leagues as a very versatile player. After opening his career with Baltimore, playing only nine games, Harris spent four seasons with the Chicago White Sox, three seasons with the Washington Nationals, and one season with each the New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox, and Atlanta Braves.

As a player, Harris had a career slash line of .238/.327/.346 and logged 580 career hits, 40 home runs, and 212 RBI’s along with 107 stolen bases.

Harris brings a winning pedigree to David Ross’ coaching staff. He was a part of the 2005 World Series Champion White Sox as a utility man. After his playing days, Harris coached in the White Sox minor-league system from 2016-2017 and in the Giants system from 2018-2019 before joining the Reds as a minor-league and baserunning coordinator in 2020.
