The University of Illinois football program announced today that they have parted ways with head coach Lovie Smith after yesterday’s 28-10 loss to Northwestern.

After Smith led the Illini to their first bowl game appearance since 2014 last season, an uninspiring 2020 campaign has resulted in a 2-5 record. Lovie closes his coaching tenure at Illinois with a 17-39 record.

Illinois still has one game remaining this season, a Week 9 matchup with Penn State on Saturday. Offensive coordinator Rod Smith will act as head coach for that contest.
