Per Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports, multiple sources have confirmed that Notre Dame will hire Marcus Freeman as their next defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. Freeman chose Notre Dame over LSU.

Freeman spent one year at Kent State as a linebackers coach in 2011. From 2013-2015, he served in the same role for Purdue. Since then, Freeman acted as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for a successful Cincinnati team.

Coach Freeman comes to South Bend after an impressive 2020 season in which the Bearcats held their opponents to 111.6 rushing yards per game, good for 15th in the nation. Cincinnati also limited opponents to an average of 6.1 yards per pass (ninth in the nation), 3.2 yards per rush, and a 52.85% completion percentage, which ranked eighth in NCAA football.

Jack Swarbrick and Notre Dame are making it known that they are an established program not to be trifled with. Notre Dame is here to stay and they mean business. Hiring Marcus Freeman will make an already excellent defense even better.
