Yoan Moncada Ready to Mash for White Sox in 2021
Yoan Moncada’s lingering COVID-19 symptoms have subsided and he’s ready to be a key piece of the White Sox in 2021.
Just days after signing Liam Hendriks, White Sox fans received even more good news.
That’s right, Yoan Moncada is free of lingering effects from COVID-19 that hampered his 2020 season and is ready to wreck the league again. In what was such an odd 2020 season, Moncada missed the beginning of summer camp due to his positive test. Even after returning to action, fans could tell that he wasn’t completely healthy. The third baseman’s legs and overall strength took a hit due to elongated coronavirus symptoms. Moncada required multiple days off during the shortened season and experienced a statistical dropoff when he did play. Thankfully, Moncada himself has spoken out and says he feels like himself again.
2020 was a year that the Cuban-born switch hitter was looking forward to. Unfortunately for him, the aforementioned unfavorable circumstances resulted in a .225/.320/.385 slash line after an impressive 2019 season that left spectators buzzing. He slashed .315/.367/.548 with 25 homers and 79 RBIs that year while being one of the team’s heavy hitters next to the American League batting champion Tim Anderson.
This upcoming season, which is currently set to start on time and run a full 162 games, has the makings of another exciting year for the White Sox. Moncada, who turns 26 in May, will be a large piece of the puzzle to complement Eloy Jimenez, Luis Robert, and Jose Abreu in the middle of the lineup. The hunger to compete in October is oozing from the club after their early exit just months ago, having a healthy Moncada sending rockets all over the diamond will help carry the franchise to where they want to go.
