Blackhawks Place Toews/Dach on LTIR, Seabrook on IR
The Blackhawks injuries continue to pile up as Jonathan Toews and Kirby Dach have been placed on LTIR and Brent Seabrook was placed on IR.
News did not get any better for the Chicago Blackhawks after a disappointing Opening Night 5-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. The team announced today that they have placed Jonathan Toews and Kirby Dach on long-term injured reserve. Brent Seabrook has been placed on inured reserve.
Jonathan Toews is currently out with an undisclosed illness. There has been no word on exactly what is ailing the Blackhawks’ captain.
Kirby Dach broke his wrist in an exhibition game during the World Junior Championship. After showing great promise for the Blackhawks during the playoffs last season, Dach is likely to miss the entire 2021 season.
By designation of their long-term injured reserve status, both Dach and Toews will have to miss at least 10 games and 24 days. However, Dach will miss four-to-five months with his wrist surgery.
Veteran and assistant captain Brent Seabrook was set to return from hip surgery. However, the longtime Blackhawk tweaked his lower-back in training camp and finds himself on injured reserve for the time being.
Head Coach Jeremy Colliton will certainly be facing a tall task as this season kicks off. An already thin roster will be without their captain and one assistant captain. He will also be without his two top centers. The Blackhawks return to action on Friday to face-off with the Lightning in the second game of their two-game “series”.
