Theo Epstein to Consult for MLB Commissioner’s Office
Former Cubs’ executive Theo Epstein will consult for the MLB commissioner’s office on improving the on field product.
When Theo Epstein stepped down as Cubs President of Baseball Operations, he said he didn’t plan to work for an MLB team in 2021. However, he didn’t say anything about the league itself. On Thursday, the MLB reported that Epstein will join the commissioner’s office in a consulting role for on field matters.
Based on the official release, Epstein’s job will be to improve the on field product for Major League Baseball. Theo has always been one of the most outspoken executives in baseball, so being tabbed for the role makes sense.
Given Epstein’s reputation in baseball, he is a perfect brain to have working with the league to improve the on field product. During his time with the Cubs, the organization became one of the most forward thinking teams in the league. If anyone can help save baseball from its own commissioner’s office, its Theo Epstein.
Theo Epstein stepped down as Cubs’ President of Baseball Operations soon after the conclusion of the 2020 season. He is one of five executives to ever win a World Series with two different clubs.
