The Cubs have potentially found their replacement for Victor Caratini. According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, the Cubs signed veteran catcher Austin Romine to a one-year contract on Friday morning.
The nine-year backstop played in 37 of 60 games with the Tigers in 2020 after eight seasons with the Yankees.
Romine carries a career .239/.278/.361 slash line. He’s never played more than 80 games in a season.

Irronically, Miguel Cabrera and Romine played together in 2020.
Presumably set to back up Willson Contreras, Romine will bring a veteran presence off the bench for the Cubs.
Above all, this guy can mash a baseball sometimes. He could prove to be a nice depth piece for the Cubs in 2021.
