The Cubs have potentially found their replacement for Victor Caratini. According to’s Mark Feinsand, the Cubs signed veteran catcher Austin Romine to a one-year contract on Friday morning.

The nine-year backstop played in 37 of 60 games with the Tigers in 2020 after eight seasons with the Yankees.

Romine carries a career .239/.278/.361 slash line. He’s never played more than 80 games in a season.

If the name rings a bell in your head but you’re still not sure why, see this highlight from 2017.

Irronically, Miguel Cabrera and Romine played together in 2020.

Presumably set to back up Willson Contreras, Romine will bring a veteran presence off the bench for the Cubs.

Above all, this guy can mash a baseball sometimes. He could prove to be a nice depth piece for the Cubs in 2021.
