This afternoon, the Bulls announced that rookie Patrick Williams is available for tonight’s game against the Charlotte Hornets. Williams, who was added to the injured list on Monday, is available for the first time since last Friday. His availability presents an opportunity to go head-to-head with fellow rookie LaMelo Ball, a player many Bulls fans wanted in the 2020 NBA draft. On the season, Williams is averaging 10.2 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game while shooting 48.5% from the field and 50% from deep.
Wendell Carter Jr. is Out
Wendell Carter Jr. sustained an injury in practice on Wednesday after colliding with Denzel Valentine. On Thursday, he said he was feeling a step or two slow, so he expressed doubt about playing on Friday. Now it is official. The Bulls will be without their starting center against the Hornets. It is unclear how Billy Donovan will set the lineup without Carter Jr. He could move Lauri Markkanen to center and start Otto Porter Jr. or Thaddeus Young at forward. He could also decide to start Daniel Gafford. The Hornets are without Cody Zeller, so it isn’t a bad game to sacrifice size.
The Bulls take on the Hornets tonight, Friday, January 22nd at 6 PM CST. Check back for a game report afterward and make sure to stay up to date on all things Chicago basketball by tuning in to the Bulls On Tap podcast.
