It’s no secret that Chicago is a breeding ground for some of the biggest names in comedy. Immense talents from both the worlds of improv and stand up have cut their teeth on our stages. But, were you aware that most comedians get good here then move to one of the coasts?

We here at On Tap Sports Net have decided it’s time to shine a spotlight on the local talent in hopes that with the support of you, dear reader, our all-stars stay in Chicago! New York and LA can develop their own. Chicago is a Triple-A city to nobody! For our third installment, we chatted up Alex Dragicevich.

Comedian of the Week: Alex Dragicevich

Alex is a Chicago-based stand-up comedian and former D1 college basketball player, having played at Notre Dame and Boston College. Alex is a regular at the Laugh Factory, Comedy Bar, and Zanies, so be sure to catch him live when life gets back to normal! Alex also writes, acts, and directs brilliant sketch comedy videos with fellow Chicago comics, as seen here:

Getting to Know Alex Dragicevich

You played college basketball at Notre Dame and Boston College, is there anything from your playing days that you apply to stand up comedy?

I’d say just being able to shake off a bad night. Going through slumps in basketball helped me deal with bombing multiple shows in a row and still having a good attitude about it.

What has been your favorite moment in comedy?

I did a show in NYC where I was by far the worst on the lineup, a lot of my college friends came and I did much better than I expected to. That same week I realized I’ll probably never make it. Still felt good though.

If you could dunk on any celeb, who would it be and why?

Probably Brie Larson. Because then I could be like ‘while we’re here, I heard you’re single’.”

If you could change anything about the NCAA, what would it be?

If players were allowed to make money off their likeness I think that would be awesome. And let the kids smoke weed for God’s sake.

What’s your favorite Chicago bar?

Old Town Ale House. Countless great nights with comics and as many bad dates.

Be sure to check back every week as we continue to showcase the awesome comedy talent across Chicagoland! Last week we caught up with Erica Nicole Clark.
