The Chicago Bulls have had a question mark at the point guard position for a long time now. Some have hopes that 2019 NBA Draft pick Coby White can fill the position, but others question it due to his “score-first” style of play. Watching White play this year, it seems that he’s made more of an effort to be an all-around point guard instead of just a dynamic scorer off the bench. Now, this comes with ups and downs, but maybe Artūras Karnišovas and Marc Eversley have seen enough.

Trade rumors have been swirling around Pelicans’ point guard Lonzo Ball, and the Bulls, among other teams, are reportedly interested.

Lonzo Ball is set to enter restricted free agency this upcoming offseason, so why would the Bulls trade for him? Well, his value has never been lower and he possesses a ton of potential. Lonzo plays fast, just as the new-look Chicago Bulls like to do, so he could potentially be a fit as the playmaker and perimeter defender they need. Additionally, it would give the Bulls a good look at the 23-year-old to determine whether or not he’d be worth retaining instead of offering him an insane amount of money in restricted free agency.

Ball’s scoring is a bit rough, as he is a 39% shooter from the field in his career, a 33% three-point shooter, and worst of all a 43% free throw shooter. But before this season, he had showed consistent improvement in all three categories as his career progressed. The Bulls wouldn’t look for him to be a dynamic scorer, but instead to serve as the lead facilitator to help players such as Zach LaVine, Patrick Williams, and Wendell Carter Jr. to get the best looks possible and be in the right spot at the right time.

It’s just a rumor right now, but it will certainly be an interesting situation to monitor over the coming months.
