After a week of absences piling up, the Blackhawks finally got some good news on Tuesday morning. Forward Alex DeBrincat and defenseman Nicolas Beaudin were removed from the NHL’s COVID Protocol List.
DeBrincat originally landed on the COVID Protocol List just over a week ago and head coach Jeremy Colliton said DeBrincat would likely be sidelined two weeks. This earlier-than-expected return is certainly a welcome sight for the Blackhawks’ forward corps, as DeBrincat posted two goals and four assists through six games to start the season. Despite missing the team’s last four games, DeBrincat’s six points remain tied for second-most on the Blackhawks. He participated in today’s morning skate.
Beaudin’s stint on the COVID List was luckily short-lived. He entered the league’s protocol on Saturday and only missed Sunday’s game.
Colliton stated neither DeBrincat nor Beaudin tested positive for COVID-19 but the team will “see how it plays out” regarding a return to game action.
The Blackhawks’ bench boss announced Kevin Lankinen would start in goal tonight vs. the Hurricanes but did not give further lineup details.
While these returns are a positive sign for the Blackhawks, they’re not in the clear just yet. Adam Boqvist, Lucas Wallmark, and Ryan Carpenter remain on the NHL’s COVID Protocol List.
