The American Association of Professional Baseball announced today that the Kane County Cougars will be joining their league for the 2021 season. They will join the Chicago Dogs as a second team in the Chicagoland area. With the Cougars joining the AA, it will bring the number of teams up to 11, so a 12th team will need to be added to balance the league.
The Cougars were one of many minor league teams that lost their major league affiliations for the 2021 season. Kane County served as a Class A team (single A) from their initial season in 1991 through 2020. The Cougars have been affiliated with the following MLB teams:
- Arizona Diamondbacks (2015–2020)
- Chicago Cubs (2013–2014)
- Kansas City Royals (2011–2012)
- Oakland Athletics (2003–2010)
- Florida Marlins (1993–2002)
- Baltimore Orioles (1991–1992)
The Kane County Cougars offer a terrific, affordable ballpark experience for the whole. The AA is gaining a fantastic organization to join their league.
