On Friday morning, the Chicago Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs, announced their captaincies for the 2021 season.
Forward Garrett Mitchell will be serving as captain for Rockford this year. He is the 13th in the team’s history, and it will be the second time Mitchell sports the “C”. He previously served as captain for the Hershey Bears, the AHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals, for three seasons.
Mitchell, who has played in 417 AHL games, joined the IceHogs late last season and contributed six points in 15 games while serving as an alternate captain during road games. The 29-year-old forward has played one game in the NHL, which came in the 2016-2017 season with the Capitals. John Quenneville and Cody Franson will be serving as alternate captains alongside Mitchell this season.
Rockford’s first game will get underway tomorrow at 3:00 PM CT at BMO Harris Bank Center as they host the Chicago Wolves. Visit IceHogs.com for more details on how to catch the action.
