After today’s morning skate, the Blackhawks provided a few injury updates.
Connor Murphy missed Tuesday’s game at Dallas due to a right hip ailment and was originally considered day-to-day. Now, the reliable defenseman will miss an extended stretch of 10-14 days. Murphy has posted two goals and three assists while averaging 22:45 TOI over 13 games so far this season.
Additionally, forward Andrew Shaw is in the concussion protocol. He will miss tonight’s game vs. the Blue Jackets at the very least. Shaw received an elbow to the face during Tuesday night’s game against Dallas, so that is the cause of his placement in the protocol. Matthew Highmore will take his place in the lineup tonight.
The words “Shaw” and “concussion” in the same sentence always raise eyebrows in Chicago due to the rugged forward’s injury history. He played in just 14 games in 2019-20 before concussion issues wiped out the rest of his regular season and prevented him from participating in the expanded 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. He has skated in all 14 Blackhawks games this season, posting two goals and two assists while averaging 15:07 TOI.
UPDATE: The Blackhawks announced that Andrew Shaw has been placed on injured reserve, sidelining him for at least seven days.
The Blackhawks’ schedule consists of four games over the next week; a two-game set vs. Columbus beginning tonight and a pair of games at Detroit next Monday and Wednesday.
