As the polar vortex sucks us all deeper into the abyss, I wanted to share a little nugget that I’ve just recently come to know. It turns out that Rick Astley and Freddy Krueger (Actor Robert Englund) sang the backing vocals on the 1995 Academy Award-winning song ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’.
You read that last sentence correctly, the Rick Roll and the Springwood Slasher added their pipes to one of the most iconic Disney songs of all time.

For most, seeing Rick Astley here isn’t too crazy, he is a singer after all. Robert Englund is a first-ballot HOF horror icon, most notably known for playing Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare On Elm Street series. Englund is also a classically trained actor and once starred in a big-screen version of Phantom of the Opera in 1989. The movie tanked but I will be watching it ASAP.

It remains unconfirmed if the original chorus proposed by Englund himself was ever recorded “One, Two Nala’s coming for you / Three, Four gonna roll on the floor” but scholars are hoping to unearth it one day and remaster it to 4K as they’ve just done for Astley’s ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ music video.
