The NBA All-Star votes are in. Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine finished third in NBA player voting and fourth in fan voting among Eastern Conference guards. It is now up to the NBA head coaches to pick the reserves, which will be announced next Tuesday, February 23rd.
The starters selected in the Eastern Conference players pool are Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bradley Beal, Joel Embid, Kyrie Irving, and “Team Captain” Kevin Durant. The Western Conference All-Star starters are Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic, Kawhi Leonard, Steph Curry, and “Team Captain” LeBron James.
There is very stiff competition for LaVine to make the cut, as he will be going up against fellow guards Jaylen Brown, James Harden, and Trae Young. But upon dissecting LaVine’s numbers, he deserves to be in this game.
So far this season, LaVine is averaging career-highs in PPG, APG, RPG, FG%, 3PT%, and FT%. He has willed the Bulls to a 12-15 record and his team currently sits just .5 games outside of the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference standings. The aforementioned names all deserve All-Star nods, but Zach LaVine has played like an absolute superstar this year. Hopefully the coaches who are picking the reserves feel the same way.
