As position players report to Spring Training, one significant name will be missing from White Sox camp for the time being. First baseman Jose Abreu has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a press release from Rick Hahn via the White Sox.

As outlined above, Abreu is asymptomatic and is feeling fine. The White Sox slugger believes he contracted the virus in January. However, this will keep him away from the team for “the next several days”.

Abreu is coming off his best season in the majors after winning the 2020 AL MVP Award. Abreu slashed .317/.370/.617 and posted an OPS+ of 166. In 60 games, he smashed 19 home runs and added 60 RBIs.
