According to Rockford’s WTVO and MyStateline.com, the Chicago Blackhawks are expected to purchase their AHL affiliate Rockford IceHogs.
Over the years, the IceHogs have been under the City of Rockford’s ownership, with about $400,000 headed to West Madison Street for their affiliation agreement courtesy of RAVE (Rockford Area Venue and Entertainment Authority), but all of that may change in the near future. The current agreement is set to expire in 2022.
According to the report, the Blackhawks remain interested in keeping the AHL team in Rockford and making vast improvements to the IceHogs’ current home, the BMO Harris Bank Center. An approximated $20 million is the focus for said upgrades. Rockford residents will also be pleased to know that $16 million of that is already accounted for through state funding.
RAVE also hopes the improvements to the IceHogs’ home will bring more entertainment to Rockford once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
