As it stands right now, wide receiver Allen Robinson will be a Chicago Bear in 2021. On Tuesday, the team announced they would be placing their franchise tag on the disgruntled Robinson, who was seeking a long term deal with the team.
To say this entire situation will be smooth moving forward would be a flat out lie. Robinson and his agent Brandon Parker have been vocal in their displeasure with contract negotiations. Chicago Bears GM Ryan Pace has come off flustered when asked about the situation, notably during last week’s press conference.
Many expect Robinson won’t be willing to play under the tag, which could bring about trade demands or a holdout. However, the team has until mid-July to work out a long term deal before the tag goes into effect. If Robinson chose not to sign the franchise tender, he could potentially sit out of the 2021 season.
Expect this to be a long process.
