This week, Ali Drapos holds the title of Chicago Comedian of the Week! Ali has been killing it at venues all over Chicago these past few years and has recently made a name for herself by creating hilarious, character-driven videos on Instagram and Tiktok. You can also see Ali live every Wednesday at The Laugh Factory this April. Let’s get to know Ali.
What has been your favorite moment in comedy so far?
“I did a backyard show after six months of not doing stand-up due to the pandemic. Those 20 minutes were the most I felt like myself this past year. I was so scared I lost my ability to tell jokes and be funny. I was also so scared I just straight up forgot how to talk to people. There’s a moment of mental silence right before you go on stage where you transition from “nervous” to “Sasha Fierce”. That’s one of my favorite parts of performing, and that night I got to return to the person I had been missing for so long. I cherished every moment connecting with the audience, and when I got home I had insane diarrhea.“
It’s 2 AM and you’re hungry. What Chicago late-night spot are you ordering from?
“The Golden Apple on Lincoln has the BEST waffles. I get a stack of those and a bowl of Kraft Mac & cheese that I mix a little half and half into.“

Who are your comedy heroes?
“I grew up watching Lucille Ball with my grandmother, which inspired me to get into performing. Maria Bamford made me want to try stand-up.“
What are you the “Michael Jordan” of ?
“Meeting people’s parents. I don’t know if I’m secretly a 60-year-old at heart or if I’m just good at being full of shit, but parents love me!“
