White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson logged just one plate appearance in Sunday’s series finale against the Angels before exiting the game.
Anderson led off the game with a seemingly routine groundout but looked to hit the base awkwardly with his foot when running through the bag. Here’s a video of the play:
When the White Sox took the field in the bottom of the first, Leury Garcia replaced Anderson at shortshop.
Losing Anderson, the 2019 American League batting champion, certainly hinders the White Sox offensive potential. Anderson had three hits, including one home run, and three RBIs in addition to three runs scored coming into Sunday’s contest.
UPDATE – 4/4/21, 8:39 PM CT: The White Sox have listed Tim Anderson as day-to-day with hamstring tightness.
UPDATE – 4/5/21, 6:13 PM CT: White Sox manager Tony La Russa says Tim Anderson is undergoing an MRI. The team is still awaiting the results and the shortstop will likely be sidelined “a few days”.
La Russa also added the team would be satisfied with having Anderson back for the White Sox home opener on Thursday, which could signal his absence for the series in Seattle.
