After a torrid start to his Major League Baseball career, White Sox designated hitter Yermin Mercedes will take home April 1-4 American League Player of the Week honors.
Mercedes batted 9-for-14 with two doubles and a home run in the four-game set against the Los Angeles Angels.
His impressive 8-8 stretch to begin the season was the first such occurrence in MLB’s modern era (since 1900).
Mercedes was perhaps one of the most prolific highlights in an otherwise forgetful series for the White Sox against the Angels. While he cooled off a bit by going 1-5 in the series finale on Sunday night, White Sox and baseball fans in general will not soon forget Mercedes’ scorching hot streak to begin the season.
