As the news cycle starts to release the news, reports indicate Cubs’ legend Fergie Jenkins will receive a statue outside of Wrigley Field.

As noted, the plans for the statue are still in the works, but it could debut as soon as 2022. When asked about being immortalized, Jenkins responded, “It just brings a smile to your face, knowing that you’re going to be immortal.”

The announcement is an incredible moment for Jenkins and his family. The Hall of Famer was a three-time All-Star, and won a Cy Young in 1971 with the Cubs. Jenkins had an unbelievable 24-13 record, 2.77 ERA, and pitched 325.0 innings. Yes, 325 innings, which is a number in today’s day and age that is unheard of.

Jenkins will now join Ron Santo, Billy Williams, and Ernie Banks as players with statues around Wrigley Field. All four players’ numbers are also retired by the Cubs. Along with the aforementioned names, Fergie will now be immortalized with the great Harry Caray as well.

In Jenkins tenure with the Cubs (1966-73, 1982-83), he recorded 167 wins, a 3.20 ERA, and 2,038 strikeouts while pitching 2,673.2 innings.
