The Chicago White Sox have placed another outfielder on the IL this afternoon. Billy Hamilton was placed on the 10-day IL, and the contract of outfielder Nick Williams was purchased from the Schaumburg alternate site. The White Sox also placed LHP Jace Fry on the 60-day injured list.
The White Sox have a plethora of injuries at the moment. Tim Anderson was placed on the IL after a hamstring injury, Adam Engel is on the IL for the same reason, Eloy Jimenez had shoulder surgery, and now Billy Hamilton suffers the same fate. Hamilton injured himself in the series finale of the Seattle Mariners series after a slide into third base. He stayed in the game and scored a run, but did not return to the outfield after.
Hamilton was sure to be in left field for the White Sox home opener against the Kansas City Royals. Now, Nick Williams will take his place. Williams signed a minor league contract with the club in January and hit .300 in Spring Training. He had four doubles, one home run, and two RBI’s. He will get the start in left field for today’s home opener.
