Getting to Know Joe Fernandez
What has been your favorite moment in comedy so far?
“The night of my album recording by far. It’s the most fun I’ve ever had doing stand-up and went exactly how I wanted it to. All my friends and fellow comics were super supportive and it was a special night top to bottom that I’ll never forget. Shout out to Comedians You Should Know for letting me record there.“
What’s your favorite Chicago bar?
“Galway Bay with Green Mill as a close second. They both have staff there that treat you like family and you can’t ask for anything more than that. They have truly amazing fun and kind people that give that ‘Cheers‘ vibe when you walk in. It’s honestly a problem with how many free drinks they hook you up with (don’t know if I should be saying that but whatever).“
Who are your comedy heroes?
“Mitch Hedburg and Harris Wittels. They’re both so absurdly silly and weird. I’ve listened to Hedburg’s albums and Harris Wittels’ Phone Corner on Comedy Bang Bang over 100 times each.“
What are you the “Michael Jordan” of?
“NBA JAM. If I can name drop, Hannibal Buress said I was like Rain Man, but just at that. Also, beating Hannibal at NBA JAM is by far my best comedy credit.“
Who’s a celebrity you’d love to get drunk with?
“Charles Barkley. I love dudes who are ball-busters and he probably has a million and one stories, most of which could never see the light of day.“
Check back every week as we highlight an awesome comedy talent in Chicagoland. Last week we hung out with Ali Drapos.
