Stan Bowman’s fourth move of the day was underwhelming to say the least, but it adds to the Blackhawks’ cupboard of assets acquired in the last two weeks.
The Blackhawks are sending defenseman Madison Bowey and a fifth-round draft pick to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a fourth-round pick.
Bowey only played two games with the Blackhawks this season, recording an assist in the process. Bowey also only dressed for two IceHogs games this season, as he has been a mainstay on the Blackhawks’ taxi squad.
Bowey signed a two-year deal with the Blackhawks back in January but clearly wasn’t a part of the team’s future plans. It was assumed that Bowey was acquired for expansion draft purposes, but after the Blackhawks’ recent flurry of moves, other names may be identified as the potential expansion casualty.
The Blackhawks acquired Vancouver’s 2021 fourth-round draft pick in the deal. Despite sending a fifth-rounder to Vancouver with Bowey, the Blackhawks have added higher picks to their 2021 and 2022 stash. The Blackhawks now have eight draft picks in 2021, with multiple picks in the second, fourth, and seventh rounds, and no picks in the third and fifth rounds.
