The Rockford IceHogs announced on Thursday afternoon that the club has signed a new face within the Chicago Blackhawks organization. The IceHogs have signed Carson Gicewicz to an AHL deal through the 2022-23 season.
Not long ago, Gicewicz was flying around the ice for the University of Massachusetts and helping them hoist their first NCAA National Championship in program history. Now, he finds himself signing an AHL contract through 2023 with the Rockford IceHogs.
The 6-foot-3, 212-pound forward lead UMass with 17 goals in 2021, and ranked third in points with 24. His highlight of the season was his hat trick performance against Bemidji State, which sent UMass to the Frozen Four.
Prior to his stint with UMass, Gicewicz attended St. Lawrence through his junior season before transferring. He played in just over 100 games for St. Lawrence and was named captain in 2018.
A new chapter begins for the New York native, who is now apart of a Blackhawks organization that is continuously trying to find young, talented hockey players.
The IceHogs continue play this Saturday against their in-state rival, the Chicago Wolves. Puck drop is set for 6:00 PM CDT.
