British actor Helen McCrory has passed away at the age of 52 after a battle with cancer. The announcement came on Twitter from her husband, fellow actor Damian Lewis.

McCrory’s career started in 1993 and she worked steadily since. She rose to prominence in the US when she starred as Narcissa Malfoy in 2009’s Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and the two subsequent sequels.

McCrory was also well-known as Aunt Polly on the BBC show Peaky Blinders, in which she plays the matriarch of the Shelby family. She was a constant presence on the show, and really made Series 2 (and the show as a whole) into the behemoth it is today. The show paid their respects on Twitter:

McCrory is survived by her husband, Damian Lewis, and their two children; daughter Manon and son Gulliver.
