The Chicago White Sox announced today that Luis Robert will head to the injured list for the time being after notifying the medical staff of flu-like symptoms on Monday.
Robert will remain on the injured list until the club receives further COVID-19 testing results. The White Sox recalled pitcher Alex McRae from the Schaumberg alternate training site as a corresponding move following Robert’s designation. As for outfield depth in Robert’s absence, the White Sox recalled Luis Gonzalez earlier today.
The White Sox certainly hope Robert’s absence is brief, as he has been one of the hotter bats in the lineup as of late. He has reached base safely in his last six contests, including three multi-hit games. The second-year outfielder is slashing .214/.279/.339 with one home run, five RBIs, and three walks over 18 games this season.
Starting pitcher Dylan Cease endured a similar situation earlier in the month when flu-like symptoms sent him to the injured list. Luckily, Cease did not contract the virus and was able to return to the team after a brief precautionary absence.
