You know those Twitter accounts that you just can’t go without? Well, thanks to a new feature on Twitter, you can show your support with cold-hard cash.
It has been rumored for some time now that Twitter has been working toward some sort of pay feature, and at last, it’s here… kind of.
The new feature called “Tip Jar” allows users to connect their accounts with currency apps like Cash App, Venmo, PayPal, Patreon, and Bandcamp. An icon on Twitter profiles, next to the message button, will get users started in the tipping process and allow supporters to send money using their desired app as long as the account also has that same app integrated.
Don’t go searching for the icon just yet, however. Reports indicate that Twitter is slowly rolling this feature out and making it available to users in the English language. Furthermore, Tip Jar’s access is only exclusive to some creators, nonprofits, journalists, and influencers for now. A big plus though is that the platform has stated that they won’t be taking a cut from any tips given or received.
Twitter has also stated that it is working on more ways to provide income opportunities for creators and those alike. Some of those ways include follower-exclusive content, ticket sales to partner apps, and a publication feature that allows users to bypass a website’s paywalls.
While users await a full rollout of the Tip Jar feature, it gives content creators and business accounts something to model their content around, and when it’s here, it will allow supporters to show their gratitude for their favorite accounts.
