Brett Connolly and Duncan Keith are each in concussion protocol and will not play the final two regular-season games for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Both players sustained their injuries in Chicago’s 2-1 overtime win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday in Raleigh. Keith fell along the boards and linesman Ryan Gibbon’s right knee hit the defenseman’s head at 9:49 of the first period. Connolly, a forward, collided with Hurricanes forward Steven Lorentz in the second period. Connolly and Keith each did not return after their respective collisions.

Keith scored 15 points (four goals, 11 assists) in 54 games this season, his 16th with Chicago. Connolly scored six points (three goals, three assists) in 31 games, including two points (one goal, one assist) in ten games with the Blackhawks. Chicago acquired Connolly from the Panthers with defenseman Riley Stillman on April 8th. Connolly and Keith are each signed through the 2022-23 season.

The Blackhawks also shut down forward Kirby Dach two days ago due to right wrist discomfort.

Forward Ryan Carpenter (concussion protocol) and defenseman Calvin de Haan (right hip) practiced Saturday but are unlikely to play in Chicago’s final two games. De Haan and Carpenter last played April 21st and 23rd, respectively, against the Nashville Predators.

The Blackhawks, who have been eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs contention, host the Dallas Stars on Sunday and Monday as fans return to the United Center.
