Ahead of Thursday’s series finale with the Nationals, the Cubs placed OF Jason Heyward on the 10-day IL. According to Gordon Wittenmyer, the team recalled OF Nick Martini to replace their Gold Glove right fielder.
Jason Heyward is not hitting for high average this season, slashing .183/.254/.341. However, he has hit four home runs, driven in 13 runs, and scored 15 runs. As always, Heyward is also playing strong defense.
As for Martini, he hasn’t done much this season with the Cubs. In only five at-bats, Martini has a lone single. In his career, he is slashing .268/.369/.376 with two home runs and 26 RBI’s in 92 career games.
The Cubs finish their series with the Nationals on Thursday, looking to capture the series victory before they pay a visit to the St. Louis Cardinals for the first time this season over the weekend.
