The Rockford IceHogs jumped into their offseason by taking action on one of their best scorers by inking him to a new deal.

The Chicago Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate wasted no time agreeing on a new deal with forward Dylan McLaughlin. The AHL contract brings McLaughlin back through the 2021-22 season.

McLaughlin received multiple of the team’s annual awards, recently earning Most Improved as well as Leading Scorer through the 32-game campaign. During his 28 games, the 25-year-old forward tallied 22 points (eight goals, 14 assists). McLaughlin posted four shorthanded points within that total.

In a press release from the club, head coach Derek King explained that McLaughlin’s improvement was encouraging to see. He mentioned that a big role in the forward’s uptick was his ability to learn how to play without the puck and that his next goal should be to turn this AHL contract into an NHL one.

As for McLaughlin, in the same press release, he expressed a desire to continue to get bigger and stronger. Attributes like that will allow him to occupy the front of the net and create more chances not just for him but for his teammates as well.
