A trio of Chicago Blackhawks won gold with Canada at the 2021 IIHF World Championship on Sunday in Riga, Latvia.

Nicolas Beaudin, Brandon Hagel, and Brandon Pirri each claimed their first international medal with Canada’s 3-2 overtime win against Finland.

Beaudin and Hagel each had one shot and played 9:48 and 13:40 of ice time, respectively. Pirri did not record a shot on net in 12:33. Beaudin and Pirri each did not play in overtime, but Hagel did for 54 seconds.

Pirri scored three goals in 10 tournament games. His goal total tied Dominik Kubalik (Czech Republic) for the most by a Blackhawks player at this yearโ€™s tournament.

Beaudin had an assist against Team USA in group play for his lone point of the tournament. Hagel did not score a point at Worlds.

Commesso, Team USA Takes Bronze

Drew Commesso won bronze with the United States’ 6-1 win against Lukas Reichel and Germany earlier in the day.

Commesso did not play in the tournament after he replaced Anaheim Ducks goaltender Anthony Stolarz, who suffered a lower-body injury against Canada in group play. It is Commesso’s first international medal.

Reichel had two shots โ€“ each in the third period โ€“ and was 2-for-8 on face-offs in 15:29 of ice time in the loss.

The 19-year-old forward scored six points (two goals, four assists) in nine games to rank third on the team behind Matthias Plachta and Marcel Noebels, who each had eight points.
