What should come as no surprise to Cubs fans, Patrick Wisdom has been named the NL Player of the Week.
Wisdom has been on fire this past week, hitting .435 with a monstrous 1.719 OPS. Add in the six home runs, nine RBI’s, and outerwordly 354 wRC+ and Wisdom was a no-brainer for the award.
Patrick Wisdom has had a unique path to the big leagues. After being drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2012, the third baseman was a top prospect for the Cubs’ most notable rival. However, the Cardinals gave up on him when they traded him to Texas in 2018. Wisdom has never really had an opportunity to be an everyday player at the MLB level, but he is making the most of his opportunity with the Cubs in 2021.
However, despite an incredible week for Wisdom, the Cubs still have a dilemma on their hands. What will they do with the 29-year-old rookie when David Bote, Matt Duffy, and Nico Hoerner are all healthy? It’s an intriguing question, and one that On Tap Sports Net contributor Joe Marras explored.
Although Patrick Wisdom’s immediate future with the Cubs is uncertain, his accomplishments are appropriately celebrated with the NL Player of the Week nod. Wisdom’s week helped carry the Cubs offensively, and he’s now getting the national recognition to back it up.
